Go Season is in its first month and Pokémon GO Trainers have had plenty of reasons to get outside, enjoy the warm weather, and explore their local communities thanks to the mobile AR game. This weekend brings a popular Community Day event that is sure to keep the action going, but Battle Raid fans can also get ready to head out before the CD event to celebrate the latest Mega Raid rotation.
This month will bring a number of returning Mega Battle Raid bosses and now that Mega Venusaur is fully finished, it’s time for another Gen 1 Mega starter to take over the spotlight. After a few months of absence, Mega Blastoise returns to the scene and Pokémon GO trainers have another chance to take on the popular Mega Battle Raid boss and earn a new stack of Mega resources to use the next time a tough fight comes along. That said, taking down the boss will require a strong lineup of strategic counters.
Mega Blastoise joined the lineup today and will be active until July 1. Gathering a list of counters for the Mega Blastoise battle won’t be too different from preparing for a traditional battle raid against Squirtle’s evolution. The same weaknesses apply, which means a lot of trainers should have some good options in their sets. Blastoise is a Water-type, which means players will have the best bet using Grass- and Electric-types. There are some fantastic options for those guys in the current meta to consider, but here’s a list of the strongest ones for players who want to maximize their efficiency.
Best Mega Blastoise Counters (June 2022)
- Shadow Raikou – Thunder Shock/Wild Charge
- Shadow Magnezone – Spark/Wild Charge
- Shadow Zapdos – Thunder Shock/Lightning
- Zekrom – Charge Beam/Wild Charge
- Shadow Mewtwo – Psychocut/Lightning
- Mega (or Shadow) Venusaur – Vine Whip/Frenzy Plant
- Tangrowth – Vine Whip/Power Whip
Resource balancing is obviously a key part of Pokémon GO experience, so players will want to weigh the pros and cons when determining which Pokémon to prepare for the big battle. Burning down Stardust, Elite TMs, and Candy can always be a bit stressful, so try to focus on investing in Pokémon that are likely to prove valuable again in future battle raids or PvP activities beyond this week’s Mega Raid.
The full list of events for July 2022 should be revealed in the next few days, so be sure to check back soon for more information. Pokémon GO strategy guides, news and updates. Until then, good luck, trainers!
