news culture Prime Video: movies and series to watch in August 2022
Before tackling the start of the new school year, Amazon has planned something to occupy you in front of your screen for this month of August with a lot of films and series: there are great cinema classics that we obviously recommend, but also some original productions that may be worth the detour. We look at it right away.
Indiana Jones, the saga
Inevitably, difficult to miss these monuments of the Seventh Art, and for good reason: Indiana Jones revolutionized adventure film thanks to a grandiose combination of George Lucas (Star Wars) producing and Steven Spielberg directing. Just that ! For the month of August, the first four films that make up the entire saga (a fifth feature film is in preparation) are therefore available on the platform, namely Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Le Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989) and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). We thus find this good old Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr., a seasoned professor of archeology who does not hesitate to take the lead and go in search of mystical treasures… with always this touch of brilliant magic. Go for it, if you haven’t already.
- Available August 1
- Director: Steven Spielberg
- With : Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Shia LaBeouf
Rampage: Out of Control
If you like ultra-explosive and not necessarily very clever Hollywood blockbusters, Rampage: Out of Control might please you. This action film released in 2018, however, has the merit of adapting, quite surprisingly, an arcade video game originally released in 1986! We then follow the adventures of Davis Okoye played by Dwayne Johnson, a primatologist who goes to see one of his favorite gorillas, George, the victim of a failed experiment: the monkey will then reach a disproportionate size, just like two other animals. , a wolf and a crocodile. Take the kaiju movies, put real animals in them and have them fight in the middle of town and you have a pretty successful nag experience.
- Available August 1, 2022
- Director :Brad Peyton
- With : Dwayne Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Naomie Harris
It’s no secret, but Alain Chabat has done much for French film culture. From the multiple sketches of Les Nuls to feature films like Asterix & Obelix Mission Cleopatra, the French actor and director is a powerhouse in his field and Didier and one of his films not to be missed: released in 1997, it notably enabled him to obtain the César for best first film the following year, in 1998. We are therefore on a particularly cult comedy in which a labrador finds himself stuck in the body of a man, played by Alain Chabat. His new master (the late Jean-Pierre Bacri) then finds himself stuck with his funny pet, which inevitably gives rise to a number of replicas and situations as comic and famous.

A French comedy released in 2011 and rather recognized, sometimes compared to Visitors but in the opposite direction: two half-brothers – one mixed race, integrated into the lower middle class and the other black, suburbanite and unemployed – find themselves stranded in 1780 in the West Indies. A time not so lenient towards the population and the two brothers, whom everything opposed, then saw themselves trapped by the slavers present on the spot. A film that leaves room for humor and a few cult phrases, while not putting aside its moral purpose. “A very funny comedy, not a headache but not silly”, could we read in the press. It may be worth a look.

Thirteen Lives (Amazon Original Movie)
Definitely one of the big movies to watch closely. Thirteen Lives is an Amazon Exclusive releasing on August 5th and will feature a five star cast of Colin Farrel, Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton! In the production, we also find Ron Howard, the man behind great classics like Willow, Apollo 13, From Shadow to Light, Da Vinci Code, In the heart of the ocean and so on and the best . For once, the film tells the true story of a Thai football team, trapped in a cave because of a rainstorm. Ultra-skilled and fearless divers will then brave the situation before the eyes of the whole world to save the unfortunate : we clearly hope to be glued to our seat.

Rambo, the saga
Rambo is a love story with American cinema and today a great stereotype of the very Hollywood and patriotic war film. The saga is nonetheless legendary and if some films are better than others, know that the whole franchise will land this month on Prime Video, the perfect opportunity to rebuild your culture. We can therefore find Rambo (1982), Rambo 2 The Mission (1985), Rambo 3 (1988), John Rambo (2008) and even Rambo Last Blood, released in 2019. As for the scenario, it is Rambo (obviously) played by Stallone, a veteran of the Viet-Nam war to whom a lot of bloody odds and ends will happen in Asia. “It was not his war”, he even said.
- Available August 9
- Directors: Ted Kotcheff, George Pan Cosmatos, Peter MacDonald, Sylvester Stallone, Adrian Grunberg

A league of their own, Season 1 (Amazon Original series)
Potentially one of the good surprises of this month of August on Prime Video. First of all, note that this is an exclusive Amazon production: this series will take place at the start of the Second World War, when professional baseball players are going to the front. Faced with the lack of staff and in order to save the clubs and the discipline itself, club owners will then join forces to create a women’s baseball league, unheard of at the time. A nice trip to the United States of the 40s with all the glamor of the time, however advancing the importance of women in society and all the societal issues of the time that could cause.
- Available August 12
- With : Abbi Jacobson, Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden
In troubled waters
Shark movies, there are a lot of them and In troubled waters and necessarily to watch if you like the genre. So there we have Jason Statham who, with his team of researchers, will find themselves by a megalodon in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. As a reminder, the megalodon is an extinct species that basically resembles a white shark the size of a huge blue whale. A fish that we no longer really want on this earth in 2022 but which makes for an effective and entertaining great spectacle action film, without having the impact of Jaws in its time. Get the popcorn ready and turn up the volume, that’ll do.
- Available August 22
- Director: Jon Turteltaub
- With : Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, Rainn Wilson
The Samaritan (Amazon Original Movie)
The Samaritan is one of the big Amazon-produced movies to be released this month on Prime Video. And as the main guest, we find neither more nor less than the legend Syllvester Stallone, in the skin of a super-vigilante (named The Samaritan) presumed to have disappeared twenty-five years ago against his rival, Nemesis. Today, the hero hides in society in his true light, that of Mr. Smith, a safe man who will however be unmasked by his 13-year-old neighbor. The man will then dabble in returning to service as the city gradually sinks into chaos and crime: just to see Stallone in a superhero movie, we will watch.
