Quentin Tarantino Fans Still Can’t Decide How They Feel About ‘Death Proof’

With classic movies under his belt like pulp fiction Y once upon a time in hollywooddirector Quentin Tarantino It has a pretty big fan base.

On the r/movies subreddit, a group of fans debated where they should rank the director’s 2007 film. proof of death. User Runj0n raised the question and provided the following justification:

“Death Proof is considered Tarantino’s worst movie, although he agrees with that statement. He says that it’s not really a bad statement considering it’s his worst movie, since it’s still a good movie. My question to you is if you think Death Proof is a good movie overall. If you didn’t know, Sylvester Stallone was the original choice for him over Kurt Russell. Sylvester Stallone turned down the role because the theme is that he has little daughters. So where is Quentin Tarantino’s death proof located in his movies?

User Improbable_Layer_2268 said that she enjoyed it but understood that it was not one of the director’s best.

“It’s one of his movies. I enjoyed it and Planet Terror when Grindhouse was released in theaters.

I have rewatched Death Proof more than Planet Terror.

I see a familiarity with Duel that kept me hooked. Even when Stuntman was in the background and out of his car, he was the proverbial truck chasing a victim.

I love Duel. I appreciate the handling of the ’70s in movies that he was emulating.

He put as much into that movie as he did into all the others. He only regrets that with this one most people did not join him in his cinematic love of yesteryear.

Apparently his first failure while doing the very thing that made him so successful.”

User Agent_Tomm said that calling it the worst was not the right way to put it.

I guess I’m a glass-half-full guy, because I prefer to say it as “his least good movie”. To say that it is his worst film makes it sound terrible, when in fact it is very good, but maybe not as good as the rest of his work.

Others shared a similar point of view, like cestquilepatron: “It left me wanting more, which is not the worst thing that can be said about a movie. It had strong performances and a premise that could have done so much more.” User KMoosetoe also disagreed that it was the worst: “I’d rank it in the better half of his work.”

User astroK120 said that he just hadn’t seen the movie in a long time and that it might have gotten better with time.

“For me, it ranks near the bottom, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it went up in my ranking after watching it again. I haven’t seen it since the theaters. It’s obviously been a long time and my tastes have probably changed, but even if they haven’t, I wonder if getting it out of the Grinding the context would make me appreciate it more. Quite possible, but it’s hard to rewatch a movie you didn’t like the first time (especially at this stage in life).

The only other I’d put this low is hateful 8, but that’s not entirely fair since the only version I’ve seen is the extended miniseries version. And I saw it at like 2 in the morning while she was feeding a baby every night.”

While acknowledging that it’s not the best, Delonce said it’s a great movie to watch while doing something else.

“It’s a great ‘background movie.’ Put it on while you do something else like cleaning the house or something. You can do what you need, and watch and catch the interesting parts of the movie, then go back to what you were doing. Or you can just sit back and let yourself be absorbed by the characters.”

User wamcood got a new take on the movie after recently watching it.

I happened to see it this morning and it was the last movie of his that I hadn’t seen. I probably rank it third worst, ahead of reserve dogs Y django unchained. I’m sure it’s even better in the context of the Grindhouse double feature, which I’ll have to see someday, I just didn’t want to see the “lost reel” version first.

Of course, this comment is unique because the other two movies are incredible.

Regardless, fans seem to exist in a realm where the movie isn’t great but can still be seen, like CRoseCrizzle.

“It’s his worst movie in my opinion. That said, I really enjoyed it when I rewatched it a few months ago. It is fun. Kurt Russell does very well as a villain.

It may not be his worst film. The only one who might consider putting him ahead is the Hateful Eight. But that doesn’t feel right.”
