Recently, a speed racing event known as ‘RTA in Japan Summer 2022’ was held in Japan. Much like charity events like ‘Games Done Quick’, it asks players to run through games as quickly as possible while abiding by certain rules and regulations. As Automaton mentioned, the name of the event is derived from the Japanese term for speed racing: Real Time Attack or RTA for short, makes sense!
One game featured during the event was the recently released Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation -The Endless Seven-Day Journey, a lovely and beautifully presented adventure title where you follow the main character Shinnosuke as he spends his free time in a small farming town in Kumamoto. In our review of the game, we said that while the gameplay is admittedly simplistic, there’s an undeniable charm in the laid-back nature of the environment combined with a pretty wacky narrative.
One such task Shinnosuke is presented with during the game is a daily gymnastics ritual, which he performs with a group of villagers. This is a required task and as such can be a bit irritating for those who want to speed up the game, but as the stream during RTA in Japan showed, it also makes for some pretty wholesome cutscenes.
According to Automaton, a commentator known as Runasoru urged viewers to join in the gymnastics whenever the scene came up. As you can see from the tweet below, audience members were more than happy to oblige!
Although the audience in the video seems rather thin, it has also been noted that many people watching online also joined in, and the lyrics to the gym song appeared repeatedly in the comments section of Twitch Steam and on Twitter. In fact, the signature line “One! Two! Three!” It was even reported to be trending in Japan during the broadcast.
What helps with this, of course, is that the broadcast itself took place in the morning at 6:30am Japan time and lasted until about 8am. This is usually the time that many people do their exercises. daily, so the timing here is certainly fortuitous. Perhaps Joe Wicks could branch out into a new demographic!
We find this to be quite a beautiful and wholesome story, but what do you think? Have you already played Shin Chan? Tell us in the comments!
