If you’re unlucky enough not to have appeared on Twitter in the last 24 hours (we don’t necessarily blame you), then you’ve probably missed out on the meteoric rise of Trombone Championand with its Mii-style visuals, it made us feel a bit reminiscent.
This Guitar Hero-inspired game from Holy Wow Studios is an absolute hoot (or should we say Dream?) and the internet has gone crazy over videos of people trashing musical classics like Beethoven’s ‘Fifth Symphony’ and the national anthem of both the UK Y U.S.
Still confused as to why the hype is so big? Maybe the gameplay trailer will put your mind at ease, or maybe this beautiful rendition of the William Tell Overture. Welcome to the den of the Trombone Champ.
Currently available to purchase on Steam, people have been enjoying the game on PC and Steam Deck, where you can even play with gyroscope. With its sheer joy, motion control gameplay, and the fact that you’re playing classics in a trombone flippingwe are desperate for the game to make the jump to Switch.
We can’t help but be reminded at times like these that Trombone Champ is precisely what Wii Music could have been. All the pieces were there: musical orchestration, instrumental experimentation, playing the instruments with the Wii Remote and two-handed Nunchuck; only Trombone Champ was missing, for lack of a better word. dynamism.
Going straight to Holy Wow Studios is not a bad yell either way – when have you been unsuccessful in politely asking the developer to make changes to your game? – but it seems the team is a bit overwhelmed by the success of their game at the moment. We use ‘team’ rather liberally here, in a tweet from @HolyWowStudios itself, the developer reveals that the game has been primarily the work of one person, and one who works full-time at it!
The Switch deserves a second chance at the comedy music scene and Trombone Champ would undoubtedly be the winning ticket. A quick look at Twitter only confirms our suspicions, with many people already picking up the sweet trombone song and calling for a Switch port to come soon.
Sadly, that Switch port could be a few years away if the following statement on the game’s website is anything to go by:
WHERE CAN I PLAY IT?
Trombone Champ has been released for PC via Steam! You can buy it here.
A Mac version is currently under investigation. More ports are possible, but not currently planned.
Since only one person is working on the game at the moment, we fully understand. Still, we can’t deny that we’re a bit disappointed. However, for the familiar kindness of her and her deceptively Mii-like instrumentalists, she has to be on the list for the future, right? Right?
