Reminder: Nintendo's Tetris 99 'Second Chance' Maximus Cup starts later today

Original article [Tue 2nd Aug, 2022 02:25 BST]: Nintendo has just announced that the Switch Online game Tetris 99 will host its 30th Maximus Cup. It kicks off this Friday, August 5, and will give players a “second chance” to unlock themes they may have missed before.

Instead of having to earn 100 event points for each theme, this time around you only need to earn 10 event points per round, which means you can quickly capture multiple themes one after another. Here’s a bit of PR on it:

“Missed a recent Maximus Cup? Now’s your chance to add game themes to your collection! Compete in online battles in Tetris 99 mode and earn at least 10 event points per game theme to unlock. The points Event rewards are awarded based on the rank achieved in each battle you compete in during the event.”

As you can see, returning themes include Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Miitopia, Mario Golf: Super Rush, Skyward Sword HD, WarioWare: Get It Together! and Metroid Dread.

This cup will take place from August 5 to 10 and will take place in six consecutive rounds. Here is the full schedule:

round 1 features the Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury theme as a reward and will be available from 12am to 11:59pm PT on August 5.
round 2 has the Myotopia theme as a reward and will be available from 12am to 11:59pm PT on August 6th.
Round 3 has the Mario Golf: Super Rush theme as a reward and will be available from 12am to 11:59pm PT on August 7th.
Round 4 features the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD theme as a reward and runs from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. PT on August 8.
Round 5 has the WarioWare: Get it! theme as a reward and will be available from 12am to 11:59pm PT on August 9th.
Round 6 features the Samus Edition theme as a reward and will be available from 12am to 11:59pm PT on August 10.
