Respawn calls for an end to harassment of Apex Legends developers

Bugs, unbalanced gameplay, and other issues can be frustrating, but according to Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment, some players have taken the issues too far, sending personal attacks on individual developers on social media. Respawn tweeted about the bullying tonight and said: “We welcome feedback from the community, however, the line between constructive feedback and harassment of our development team cannot be crossed.”

It’s unclear if a specific incident prompted the tweet, but the game’s developers ran a series of Reddit AMAs earlier this week that sparked some controversy. The moderators did seem to do a good job of keeping negativity to a minimum, though, and the rude comments they did manage to get were met with graceful responses from the developers.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie responded in support of Respawn with a tweet of their own:

Most responses to Respawn’s tweet are supportive, though some trolls can be seen in the comments. Other users, however, tried to explain the possible source of the harassment.

“I am sure this is due to the limited and lack of communication [with the community]”he explained a Twitter user. “You guys ignore major issues and only respond to minor tweaks to your advantage. That’s no excuse to be negative with developers, but it’s likely to be short-term anger from players.”

Still, many gamers agreed that there was no excuse for bullying, especially when it comes to individual developers who often have no control over certain aspects of the game.

“People forget they’re talking to humans,” the Twitter user replied. daralamalice. “No matter your opinions, your ideas, what you would like the game to be, no matter how angry, frustrated or whatever, no one deserves to be bullied/harassed. You have the right to be upset and explain why, as long as you continue to being respectful.”

Apex Legends is free to play on console and PC. A mobile version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile, is available for download on Android and iOS devices.
