A trailer for a new Crypt of the Necrodancer DLC also revealed an upcoming standalone game in the series: Rift of the Necrodancer.
The trailer showed a logo and promised more news soon. Other gameplay details are yet to come, though the trailer did confirm that Rift of the Necrodancer is a new standalone rhythm game.
The DLC, Crypt of the Necrodancer: Synchrony, adds three new characters, multiplayer, and mod support to the beloved musical roguelite. It’s also available now on Steam in Early Access. The new characters are Klarinetta, a knight wielding a huge Zweihänder, Chaunter, a ghostly being who can possess enemies, and Suzu, an oni with a fast run and a powerful spear.
Multiplayer mode adds cooperative and competitive modes for up to eight players simultaneously, with up to four local players. The game uses a reverse multiplayer architecture and allows you to join and create lobbies. You can even watch matches. Modes include a simple versus mode, the last dance, and cooperative play.
The update also adds new items, enemies, and weapons. You can now wield a shield, deal damage with Onyx weapons, throw any weapon with a throwing charm, and use dash and charm spells, among many other new features. Synchrony features full support for mods, including a mod portal that allows you to install and search for mods in the game.
