News hardware Rivian: the most powerful electric 4X4 in the world is coming in 2023!
The world of electric and off-road vehicles are often seen as two different worlds. However, Rivian has the ambition to finally bring together 4X4 enthusiasts and electric lovers.
Rivian pitches, but does not give in
Rivian is an American company founded in 2009 with the aim of revolutionizing the world of electric pick-ups. The dream has now come true with its R1T model already on the market. But the financial problems are still present and despite big investors like Amazon or Ford, with a raise of 5.5 billion dollars, the boat is rocking.
Not enough to stop the development of a new electric vehicle. The project is crazy and ambitious on the part of the car company. For the moment no official image has been revealed. On the other hand, we can rely on a visual of the site
MotorTrend
to imagine what this car will be like.
In terms of looks, the engineers relied on a Rally style design. One can easily imagine the front of the current Rivians with a more streamlined and aerodynamic roof. It is also the roof that changes everything compared to the rest of the range. The name of this vehicle should be simply called: R1X.
It should ignore some options that characterize its pickup version. These include the tunnel between the rear seats and the dumpster. Quite practical for quickly storing and retrieving long objects. Especially since it is accessible from both sides of the vehicle.
What do we expect for this all-terrain electric car?
Rivian’s current pickup versions already have great crossing capabilities. Adaptive suspensions allow you to go from rough terrain to the highway, while maximizing aerodynamic range.
The R1X should be smaller, with a length of 5.04 meters all the same. Rivian wants to integrate new motors and a new battery. According to a MotorTrend informant, these could be motors manufactured by the manufacturer, with carbon fiber rotors. The power would thus be increased tenfold and accessible on all four wheels independently.
The source specifies some jaw-dropping features. The cumulative power should reach 1200 horsepower. The estimated torque would be more than 1626 nm. An absolutely gigantic number. By comparison, this is a couple more than the latest Bugatti Chiron.
The price should also follow its power. Estimated at 115,000 dollars, the price is rather salty, but lower, for example, than a Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Its official launch is scheduled for the end of 2023. But given the company’s current difficulties, it makes more sense to count on the beginning of 2024 so as not to be disappointed.
