I want to know when The Witcher Remake Release Date it is? Since this new version of the classic PC RPG was only recently announced, it’s too early to tell when exactly you’ll be able to play it. However, some of you may want to know more about the ambitious remake of the first Witcher adventure and if it’s the best place to jump into the series.
While the original was created by CD Projekt Red using BioWare’s Aurora Engine, The Witcher Remake is “being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5” by Fool’s Theory. The Polish development studio is also helping Larian with “gameplay and tool programming support” for Baldur’s Gate 3 and previously helped People Can Fly with “level design, meshing, and program support” for Outriders. Several veteran employees who helped create The Witcher will be part of this project, with CD Projekt Red providing “full creative oversight.”
Speculation on the release date of The Witcher Remake
As you’d probably expect, there’s no word on a release date for The Witcher Remake. Nevertheless, It seems extremely unlikely that we’ll see the game come out until 2024 at the earliest. CD Projekt Red games are usually only released when the studio says they’re ready. For example, we first heard about Cyberpunk 2077 in May 2012, but it didn’t release until December 2020. That’s an eight-year wait, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced and released in between that time frame.
Of course, the story here could be different, as it’s another studio making the game with CD Projekt Red’s involvement. However, according to the announcement on CD Projekt Red’s website, “it’s still early days and we want to make sure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail, so while we are excited to share the news with you, I want to ask for your patience as it will be a while before we start talking about this project in detail.”
The Witcher Remake Story
In the same way as the original video game, The Witcher Remake’s story takes place after Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher Saga novels. Follow the exploits of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter with supernatural powers. He wakes up in Kaer Morhen, the stronghold of the Wolf School, unable to remember who he is and how he got there. When unknown assailants attack, taking key mutagens and a formula detailing how to create new Witchers, he hunts them down to retrieve these powerful secrets.
For those wondering how this remake fits into the ongoing Witcher story, these events will take you right to the beginning of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Therefore, we recommend that you do not start the sequel if you are indecisive about the series as a whole, as it may spoil critical moments in the story. The original game is available in its enhanced edition form, though it was released in 2008 in a drastically different style than more recent Witcher games. It is currently unknown if Fool’s Theory will take a Final Fantasy VII Remake approach, where it loosely follows the plot but adds a lot more to it, or if it will be a more faithful remake.

Unfortunately, it’s going to “take some time before [CD Projekt Red is] ready to share more about and from the game,” according to Adam Badowski, studio head at CD Projekt Red. However, more details will no doubt come to light in the coming months, possibly years to The Witcher Remake’s release date. In the meantime, why not take a look at the best open world games to see the many alternatives out there? Just don’t start with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if you are saving yourself for this remake to start with this RPG series.
