spider head, Netflix’s long-awaited sci-fi thriller, directed by the legendary Joseph Kosinski, hit the service on June 17. While the movie got off to a good initial start, the movie’s popularity quickly declined, leading to a very disappointing first few days, especially when compared to other movies on the platform.
According to figures released by Netflix, spider head it ranked second in the ranking of the top 10 English-language films between June 13 and 19, despite only being released on June 17. However, despite being in second place, the film has only been seen for 35.4 million hours. While this is a great number on the surface, it’s not a fantastic result for a movie of this magnitude. For example, the best film of the time, Hustle, it has been viewed for 57,190,000 hours. In addition to 84,580,000 hours, it was seen during the week of its release. Compare this to another Netflix movie, red Notice, which racked up 148,720,000 hours of watch time in the first two days of its release.
These figures look even more lackluster if you go back and include the viewing hours of Netflix’s English-language TV offerings. From June 13 to 19, the original season of stranger things racked up 35,880,000 hours of watch time, despite being its fifth week in the top 10 TV deals for the platform.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett and Miles Teller, the film follows an investigative project in which prisoners take various experimental and investigational drugs in exchange for better conditions and reduced sentences. However, they quickly discover that not everything is as it seems and that the drugs they are being given have various effects on their emotions and perception of the world. Despite having an all-star cast, the film has received mixed reviews. On review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently has a critics score of 41% and an audience score of 32%, with many critics arguing that while the film had an interesting premise, it fell short. Despite several solid performances from its cast.
However, there is a possibility that this could change. It wouldn’t be the first time a Netflix product has enjoyed a burst of popularity some time after its launch on the service. All it takes is one viral clip or social media post to turn your luck around and massively increase your watch time, allowing you to climb to the top of the charts.
