At Square Enix, it’s time for the rebirth of titles that marked their era. If, on the side of the big Final Fantasy family, we have already reserved the term “Rebirth” for the second part of the remake, it is a certain Tactics Ogre: Reborn who is now seriously talking about him.
The return of a gem of the tactical RPG!
Last April, we explained to you that the publisher Square Enix had filed a trademark for a certain Tactics Ogre: Reborn. As a reminder, its origins date back to 1995 and he is one of the founding fathers of Japanese-style tactical role-playingattached to the large Tactics Ogre family and ancestor of the essential Final Fantasy Tactics.
For Western audiences, long deprived of this franchise oriented around great turn-based tactical battles, it was not until the release of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on PSP in 2011 to discover this video game monument in the form of a first remake. Although excellent, the game nevertheless deserved, according to the Square Enix teams, a little more serious modernization with a view to an exit on the Playstation 5 and Playstation 4 catalog. This is why Tactics Ogre: Reborn will offer a good number of new options aimed at bringing the gaming experience more in line with current standards. Very good news, especially with regard to the rhythm of the game and the automatic saving, in addition to the inevitable graphic and sound improvements.
Improvements galore
According to the PS Deals source, Tactics Ogre: Reborn is expected on PS5 and PS4 on November 11, 2022. We do not know if the game will also be released on other media, but the game sheet lists precisely all the characteristics specific to this new version.
Among the new features, we will especially remember these:
- Completely overhauled AI allowing enemies to adapt their tactics to the situation.
- The level management system by class is replaced by a level management system unit by unit.
- Lots of gameplay improvements: faster combat pace, auto-save, complete overhaul of controls and UI.
- Details and settings from the original game have been painstakingly recreated in high definition.
- The choice of English or Japanese dubbing for all cutscenes.
- All music has been re-recorded with live performances.
- Possibility of knowing what the different choices lead to via the Tarot of the World.
The other features mentioned by PS Deals were already present on the PSP remake but we can bet that this Tactics Ogre: Reborn will allow a new audience to discover this cornerstone of the Tactical RPG.
