The developer of Stalker 2 celebrated International Cat Day with a kitty you definitely don’t want to sit on your lap.
The recent release of Stray has reminded us how adorable cats can be in games. But the kitties that will appear in Stalker 2 are anything but cute. In celebration of International Cat Day yesterday, developer GSC Game World took to Twitter to reveal concept art for the virtual felines that will undoubtedly scare us when the highly anticipated shooter releases next year.
These feline creatures are known as “Bayun” and, like their real-life counterparts, are “stealth and agile.” The description reads: “For years, stories about him were considered mere fables. Bayun takes his name from the sacs in his throat, which allow the beast to imitate all kinds of sounds, including human speech.” Handsome.
With her bright green eyes, razor-sharp teeth, and red, bulbous growths, she has a face only a kitty mama could love. The creature’s claw-like claws, wispy tail, and skeletal body missing most of its fur make it seem all the more terrifying. It’s safe to say that even the biggest cat lovers will not enjoy encountering the bayun.
Stalker 2 was initially scheduled to release in December 2022, but was delayed due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Work on the game has reportedly resumed; this follows unconfirmed reports that the Kyiv-based studio continues to operate in the Czech Republic. No solid release date has been set, but an infographic shown during June’s Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase suggests the developer is now targeting a 2023 release.
