An open door after the finale
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6 seems end the series at the right time, closing the loop to stay consistent with A New Hope. However, some elements seem conducive to other adventures. Reva survived and broke free from the Inquisitors, but where will her path take her? Obi-Wan finally finds the ghost of his former master, Qui-Gon Jinn, who must teach him more about the mysteries of the force, and in particular how to become a ghost in turn when the time comes. This part in particular would be conducive to elaboration, especially since there is a gap of ten years before catching up with Rogue One and Episode IV. Whether the door seems nice and wide open at the end of this final episodedirector Deborah Chow prefers to be cautious rather than immediately promising a sequel to the adventures of the Jedi master in exile.
I think if this series were to continue, we would need a real reason to do so.”
A possibility for Lucasfilm
Giving an Entertainment Tonight interview, Kathleen Kennedy said a second season was indeed possible, as long as there is demand. “We had planned to do a miniseries,” the Lucasfilm president said, “but if people really want more, we’ll consider that as a fan option.” However, she remains in agreement with the words of Deborah Chow, a second season will only be possible if there is a story to tell.
In any case, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have already made it known on several occasions that they are ready to reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader should the need arise. These characters are as important to them as they are to the fans and so they hope to have new opportunities to interpret them. In the case of Hayden Christensen, this opportunity is already real, since he is in the cast of the Ahsoka series, currently being filmed, and which we will discover in 2023. Will he wear the costume of Jedi Knight or Sith Lord? That remains to be seen.
If the Obi-Wan Kenobi series must have a sequel, it will surely not be for now, Disney+’s Star Wars calendar is already full. We have already mentioned the Ahsoka series for 2023, but before that we will also discover the anime series Tales of the Jedias well as the second season of The Bad Batchand especially the highly anticipated third episode burst of The Mandalorian ! The mysterious series with Jude Law, titled Skeleton Crewis also scheduled for 2023. Our next Star Wars appointment is dated to August 31, 2022 for the Andor serieswhere we will follow the adventures of the rebel spy in the formative years of the Rebellion.
