Valve has announced that it moved ahead of schedule on Steam Deck production, accelerating pre-orders for the handheld PC gaming device. According to its most recent update, email invitations were sent to all bookings made for the Q3 period, and the company now has a head start in Q4.
“We’re accelerating pre-orders at a fast pace,” Valve said in its most recent shipping update. “This is due to increased production, and we have beaten our own estimates once again. With today’s batch of emails, we have sent invitations for all bookings in the Q3 (July-Sep) period.”
Instead of offering pre-orders, Valve is offering reservations for anyone interested in purchasing a Steam Deck by adding users to a queue. Once at the front of the queue, users receive an email to purchase their Steam Deck. Now that orders are being filled ahead of schedule, Valve has updated the store front to reflect the new production estimates, “with an updated description of the segment: September-December.”
Since its release earlier this year, the Steam Deck has received good reviews and offers some real competition for the Nintendo Switch when it comes to third-party titles, especially indies. Valve also recently opened its official repair centers for the Steam Deck.
