Game News Tales from the Borderlands 2: The sequel unveiled, here are the images!
A few months after its announcement, Tales from the Borderlands 2 is finally revealed in a first announcement trailer. To accompany this return, producers James Lopez and Frédéric Scheubel have given us their comments.
The news had already fallen last April: a brand new Tales from the Borderlands is being developed in the Gearbox offices in Quebec. The episode follows a saga started by Telltale eight years earlier, in 2014. Some veterans of the first opus also participate in the project “to make sure you get that familiar feeling of storytelling with jaw-dropping new animations and artwork from the talented Gearbox partners I’ve had the pleasure of working with“, says producer Frédéric Scheubel. A first trailer was unveiled at this gamescom opening ceremony, introducing three new adventurers who are obviously just as crazy as the previous ones. It will therefore be necessary to bid farewell to Rhys and Fiona.
There’s always a character we create that will be someone’s favorite. We want people to be excited about the characters we create. We’re always trying to expand the universe, and you can’t really do that using the same characters – James Lopez, producer at Gearbox.
Our “loser trio“as it is presented, an epic shared with Tediore begins, this arms manufacturer who will be the main antagonist of this part which will therefore not be a sequel strictly speaking. If each of the three characters is playable and inherits its own plot, note this remarkable fact: it will sometimes be possible to play the three adventurers at the same time in certain very specific contexts. Also the regulars of the saga should be entitled to a few winks:
There will be a few reminders from time to time for superfans of characters from previous games, including Tales form the Borderlands but also Borderlands 3 – James Lopez
A game still with Telltale sauce, except for one detail
The action takes place on Prometheus, a metropolitan world which hosts the headquarters of the Atlas corporation and which is occupied by the forces of Maliwan in Borderlands 3. The timeline is not really specified but James Lopez places it approximately “one year after the events“, while the world is being rebuilt. The episode takes the form of Telltale’s multiple-choice narrative game, which will have short and long-term consequences.. A difference should be noted: it will no longer be written on the screen if such and such a character will remember your choice or not: “As in life, you can say something to someone and you don’t know if they will remember it.“, justifies Lopez.

With the arrival of Borderlands 3 we had a chance to think about what we wanted to build next and we really expanded the way we tell stories, we wanted to continue that and we saw an opportunity to revisit the Tales franchise.
A traditional Borderlands game, it’s overdone and there are always great stories to tell, but it’s very co-op focused and it can be easy to miss some details. But what we do know is that Tales fans have very deep relationships with the characters and the story, and we wanted to get back to that – James Lopez.
The release window is set for October 2022!
