Fans of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso may feel like they fell off the lucky tree and hit all the branches on the way down, as EA Sports confirmed that both the head coach and his fictional AFC Richmond squad will be joining the list of playable players. teams in FIFA 23.
AFC Richmond will be available to FIFA 23 players as a member of the “Rest of World” team selection section. Richmond will be playable in standard matches, online friendlies and online seasons.
The team will also be featured in FUT through manager items for Ted Lasso and Coach Beard, AFC Richmond kits and more. The roster will include notables like Roy Kent, Sam Obisanya, Dani Rojas, and Jamie Tartt. The team’s home stadium, Nelson Road, will also be available.
“It’s fucking great to be in FIFA,” Emmy Award-winning actor Brett Goldstein, who plays player-turned-manager Roy Kent on the show, said in the official statement. “I’m not sure this is going to help dispel the CGI rumours, but fuck it, it’s worth it.”
Ted Lasso tells the story of a college football manager who is suddenly appointed boss of a fictional English Premier League football team. It stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, Hannah Waddingham as the team owner, Rebecca Welton, the aforementioned Goldstein, and more.
FIFA 23 is the latest installment in EA Sports’ annual football franchise, and notably, it will be the last to bear the FIFA name as the series transitions to “EA Sports FC” starting next year. The game launches September 30 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Google Stadia.
