The best fights are personal, and most fights in Tekken are. Way back in 1994, the first entry in the series was released, and it’s still going strong, with new entries, characters, and fighting styles. Tekken features one of the most realistic combat styles in gaming, save for a few quirky characters.
Netflix is now adapting the iconic series into a 3D anime, building on the events of the third game. With so many characters involved in Tekken, anyone can guess who will or won’t be on the show. But some of them are already confirmed. Tekken: Bloodline spoilers below!
9 Jin Kazama
Jin is the protagonist of the third game and, from what we’ve seen so far, the anime as well. A good man, who learns to fight from both his mother and his grandfather, goes on a quest for revenge against Ogre for killing his mother.
Devil Jin, who is treated as a different character in terms of gameplay, will also appear in the series as shown in the trailer and also had a major role in the third game. It will be quite nostalgic to see his younger self once again.
8 june kazama
Our protagonist’s mother was introduced in the second game and was in a relationship with Kazuya Mishima. However, there weren’t many details about their relationship, so hopefully the anime will shed some light on this topic.
She trains her son on how to fight and how to control his anger. She teaches Jin to fight alone for peace, as she knows of her lineage through Kazuya. It is her death that triggers Jin’s quest for revenge. She probably won’t be around for long, since we know her fate.
7 Heihachi Mishima
Head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and grandfather of the year, Heihachi is the one who trains Jin so that he can take revenge. Despite his charisma, he is one of the worst people in Tekken and values nothing more than strength. He can also be very sadistic and tends to help, only if he serves his own agenda.
Without saying much about his intentions in the third game, to avoid possible anime spoilers, you can expect mischief and a very weird sense of humor from him. However, get ready for amazing action scenes as he can fight people with real powers with nothing but his bare hands and feet as he is a great kicker.
6 kazuyamishima
Seen briefly in the teaser, Kazuya Mishima is Heihachi’s son and Jin’s father. He was the protagonist of the first Tekken game and the antagonist of the second. A boy who made a deal with the devil to get back at his father, he’s quite a menacing figure himself.
His role in the show is unknown as, during the events of Tekken 3, he is a bit busy being dead. However, his relationship with the Devil affects his genes and also complicates Jin’s life, so he may appear in flashbacks, for example, talking about that moment. They may also bring him back sooner than expected as he is revived in Tekken 4.
5 Ogre
The big bad guy from the third game, Ogre, the god of fighting, is a powerful creature accidentally released from his sleep. He seeks out powerful martial artists to fight and improve his own skills. This leads him on a rampage that ends the lives of some characters from the previous games, Jun being one of them.
He’s a force to be reckoned with, and even has a powerful transformation to use if the going gets tough. He appears very imposing in the teaser, withstanding attacks and knocking people down with ease.
4 Ganryū
An interesting addition to the anime, Ganryu debuted in the first Tekken game as a strong, cocky young sumo wrestler. He chose to participate in the King of the Iron First Tournament after his behavior got him banned from sumo tournaments.
What makes her addition to the anime curious, though, is the fact that she doesn’t appear in the third game, which the show is based on. His role here, ostensibly as Heihachi’s bodyguard, is a new approach to the character.
3 paul phoenix
A true veteran of the series, Paul has been to every major entry in the game. One of the strongest characters in terms of gameplay, he is a good person who is willing to make schemes for money. He is also a bit too trusting and short-tempered for his own good.
It’s hard to say if he will have a major role in the series. However, there is a possibility that he will not be much more than an opponent in the tournament. Even though the teaser has a serious tone, there’s also a possibility that he’s a comic relief character outside of combat.
two Leroy Smith
Another interesting character choice for the anime, Leroy is one of the most recent additions to Tekken, introduced as a DLC character in Tekken 7. He lost his family at a very young age due to the actions of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and in the game . , seeks to understand why so many bad things are caused by him.
However, since the series will take place during the events of Tekken 3, his appearance here is rather mysterious. Although his backstory will likely remain the same, his reason for joining the tournament is unknown.
1 king 2
A fan favorite mainly for his mask and insanely long grappling attacks, King 2 also makes an appearance in the series trailer. What many people don’t know is that the King’s mantle has been passed down between characters, and the King that appears in the early Tekken games is not the same from Tekken 3 onwards.
King 2 finds himself in a similar situation as Jin; he lost his mentor King 1 to Ogre, and even received training from King 1’s mentor Armor King. A curious detail about the character is that he only speaks through Jaguar’s growls, and it is not yet known for sure how or if he will speak in the series.
