Colin Trevorrow returned to the director’s chair to deliver the worst-reviewed installment of the six-film franchise with jurassic world domainbut $975 million at the box office underscored that audiences are more than willing to head to their local multiplex for some blockbuster dinosaur action.
The third installment in the sequel trilogy was touted as the end of an era, but based solely on the money the series continues to make, there’s little chance Universal will let one of its biggest revenue streams dry up. Speaking of which, the studio’s other top-earning property is coming to an end with the 11th entry in the quick sagaso could the two ever cross paths?
It’s a question the various cast and crew members involved in both brands have addressed before, with Trevorrow once again sharing his thoughts on the matter during an interview with ComicBook, when asked if he wanted to see Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto. eaten by a dinosaur
“I mean, of course not. Because obviously I’m like the most serious manufacturer of Jurassic Park movies we have. I think if one came to look at them… look at them ironically instead of seriously, that might be exactly where you would go… This idea is so new. That was not allowed when I was a child, you couldn’t do it like when you played with toys, you crush them. Now it’s like, well, whatever your parent company owns, you can (use it).”
Domain Newcomer DeWanda Wise was asked the same question, and she was far less contemplative in her response.
“You know what’s really fun about interviews? Someone will ask you something, and then all of that will be taken as what you actually say. I feel like that happened, because someone said ‘Oh, what should we cross?’ And I was like, ‘Well, it’s Universal. So it makes sense that it is Fast and Furious. It was in response to a question I was asked. But I also stand by my answer because they just went into space. Why not? Anything can happen in the Fast universe. Why not the dinosaurs?
Having combined to earn an estimated $12 billion at the box office, uniting jurassic world with Fast and Furious it would put butts in the seats and at the same time be so absurd that there is a distinct possibility that it will kick all sorts of asses, but it seems wishful thinking at this stage, as much as we would love it to happen.
