news culture The Gray Man: This scene from the Netflix movie gave the Russo brothers cold sweats (Avengers)
You would have thought that as big names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Russo Brothers would make short work of directing The Gray Man. And yet, one of the scenes from the Netflix blockbuster gave them a lot of trouble…
A challenge for the Russo brothers
We owe them the production of many feature films and TV series, including several heavyweights from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This is particularly the case for films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) or even Avengers: Endgame (2019). With such a filmography under their belt, Joe and Anthony Russo are not afraid to take on the most daring challenges. However, there is a scene from the movie The Gray Manrecently released on Netflix, which gave them some scares in terms of accomplishment…
The Gray Man, it’s not over!
Available since July 22 on the Netflix platform, the film The Gray Man tells how a hitman nicknamed Sierra Six (played by actor Ryan Gosling) becomes the target of Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans), a sadistic mercenary hired by his former employer in the CIA to hunt him down. The feature film puts a good part of its appeal on the duel between the two renowned actors, but the public and the press remain very divided as to the quality of the film. This does not prevent the directors from looking far ahead since they have announced that a sequel and a spin-off have already been planned in order to then draw heavily on the literary saga of Mark Greaney.

The hardest scene to shoot
It was at the microphone of The Edge podcast that the Russo brothers revealed what was the most difficult scene to shoot during the production of The Gray Man. Without much hesitation, Anthony Russo discusses the complexity of the sequence that takes place in Prague, in the sense that it involved many challenges to be overcome in an urban environment like a car chase, a shootout or the famous streetcar scene.
The film was intended to provide an adrenaline rush that thrusts the main character into it. These scenes are all stimulating and exciting. Certainly the Prague scene was very difficult to shoot. It was a huge set that involved huge sections of the city, the square, a tram going through the city, a car chase, it was very complicated. For this scene, the whole team had to draw on all their experience and go beyond what we had done before to figure out how to make it happen. So I think in many ways that was the most difficult scene, but also, maybe, the most satisfying because of that level of challenge. – Anthony Russo (co-director of The Gray Man)
It’s not for nothing that The Gray Man is to date one of Netflix’s most expensive films with a production budget of $200 million. And you, what did you think?
