news culture The Lord of the Rings: Peter Jackson removed from the series The Rings of Power by Amazon?
JRR Tolkien fans will soon have the pleasure of returning to Middle-earth with the Rings of Power series. This new program should tell us what happens in the Second Age, long before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson, to whom we owe the adaptation of these two stories to the cinema, did not participate in this series despite his motivation. A decision taken by Amazon according to the person concerned.
Middle-earth returns to our screens
Next to House of the Dragonthe Game of Thrones spin-off, The Rings of Power series is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows of the year. The show produced by Amazon displays immense ambitions at the dawn of its release within a month.
Based on the writings of JRR Tolkien, the program should depict the events during the Second Age, when Sauron is about to invade Middle-earth, the ring of power in his possession.
Choral series, the Rings of Power will feature many characters known to fans of the British author and should also bring back several heads that have already appeared in previous adaptations directed by Peter Jackson.. As for the participation of the filmmaker himself in this project, we already know that he is not involved in the production of the series. Nevertheless, this decision would have been independent of his will according to him.
Peter Jackson ‘ignored’ by Amazon
Given the success of Peter Jackson’s films, it is easy to imagine that his involvement in the series was considered by Amazon. The New Zealand filmmaker was also invited by the firm, as was screenwriter Fran Walsh who co-signed the scripts for the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, before production retracted. It was Peter Jackson himself who explained the situation in a recent Hollywood Reporter podcast.
I said: “it is impossible for me to answer before having seen the slightest script” (…)
Except that after being assured of receiving the first scripts, Peter Jackson adds that they “never arrived”.
That’s the last thing I heard, but that’s okay. I have no problem with that.
Peter Jackson would therefore have simply been excluded from the series by Amazon, without any real explanation. An anecdote that the firm could do without when approaching the release of its production. Amazon also wanted to comment on the filmmaker’s statements in order to put things straight.
By acquiring the rights for our series, we were obliged to keep the program separate from the films. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings films and are thrilled that he is looking forward to watching The Rings of Power.
As a reminder, the first episodes of the Rings of Power series will be broadcast from September 2 on Amazon Prime Video.
