news culture The Sandman: the author of Game of Thrones has seen the Netflix series, and his opinion is final!
Since August 5, Netflix subscribers can watch The Sandman, a fantasy series based on Neil Gaiman’s comics that many know for Good Omens, American Gods and Lucifer. A series that has not escaped George RR Marin, who very recently gave his opinion!
Popular comics for a successful adaptation?
The Sandman focuses on the Infinites, who each embody an aspect of Destiny : Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium. In this story, the lord of dreams, called Morpheus, was imprisoned by an occult group in 1916, which created “sleeping sickness”. More than a century later, the infinite escape and decides to do everything possible to recover his title. But the latter, who explores the world of dreams and the real world during his adventure, does not take long to discover that the border between the two has become porous and terrible things happen…
Created by Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinbergn, accompanied by David S. Goyer, the series features Tom Sturridge (Good Morning England), Vivienne Acheampong (Lucienne), Gwendoline Christie (Lucifer) and Charles Dance. The last two will no doubt evoke something for fans of Game Of Thrones and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, since Gwendoline Christie plays Brienne of Tarth in the series, as well as Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister and who lent his presence to the Emperor of Nilfgaard in the CD Projekt game.
George RR Martin is a fan!
Success is on the way, whether with comic book fans or people who are discovering this universe. And, among the thousands (millions?) of viewers, we find a certain George RR Martin, the author of Game Of Thrones, which is quietly preparing for the broadcast of House of The Dragon. On his personal blog, where he recounts his life, his thoughts, and his activities. In a recent publication, the author indicated having seen the series in advancewhich he loved, and he encouraged everyone to watch it:
Oh, and during quarantine, Sid and I watched Neil Gaiman’s new series, The Sandman. Neil had been kind enough to send a copy in advance. Guys, girls, don’t miss it. If you liked the comics, well, this is a VERY faithful adaptation, Neil made sure of that. And if you’ve never read the comic, don’t worry, not mandatory, the series stands on its own. It’s wonderful fantasy, and I hope it will last for many more seasons. There are, after all, plenty of other comic books to adapt.
However, keep in mind that Neil Gaiman and George RR Martin are far from strangers to each other. Indeed, a few years before the publication of the first volume of The Sandman in 1989, Neil Gaiman had proposed an adaptation of Wild Cards to George RR Martin, who had rejected the idea, what led Gaiman to imagine The Sandman. With this in mind, Neil Gaiman believes that George RR Martin is somehow the co-creator from The Sandman. Whether Neil Gaiman will watch remains to be seen House of the Dragon from the August 21 on HBO Maxand if he will be as complimentary to him as George RR Martin!
