Although it seems that Marvel does not reject any idea, the studio rejected three proposals from Jessica Gao before she landed she-hulk.
Gao was speaking in the she-hulk global press conference when he revealed these surprising stumbles in his MCU journey. However, she acknowledged that the upcoming Disney Plus series was the “right project” and is thankful for previous rejections:
“I was elated because it was a dream job, but I’d also been turned down by Marvel three times for previous projects, so I thought, ‘I guess fourth time’s the charm!’ It was the right project. I’m glad I’ve been rejected so many times.”
Although no one in show business is safe from rejection, we have a feeling that Gao hears “no” less often than before. In addition to creating, writing and executive producing she-hulkwrote for people like robotic chicken, Silicon ValleyY rick and morty, the latter for which he won an Emmy. Now that she’s in the MCU, Gao could make the jump to movies, maybe one or more of the Phase Five or Six projects like Captain America: New World Order, Ray, Fantastic four, Avengers: The Kang Dynastyeither Avengers: Secret Wars. Or stay with the series, and if she-hulk expands beyond its first season, we may see his name on the show for years to come.
You can watch the series that ended Gao’s Marvel rejections, She-Hulk: Lawyeron Disney Plus, starting August 18 and ending October 13.
