the cloud too
A trackmania the console is scheduled to launch “early 2023,” according to an announcement made today in a Ubisoft Forward stream.
The window given at the moment is “early 2023”, and PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia, and Luna were all specifically mentioned in the reveal (as were “cloud platforms”). Cross-play and cross-progression are also confirmed ahead of time, which is a nice surprise that doesn’t require us to hunt for hidden FAQs to find out if that’s actually planned or not.
In case you forget trackmania is the shortened title for the 2020 version of the series, which was released as a free-to-play game. As of today, a “club level” annual subscription costs $29.99, which has still earned the ire of many potential players. As Ubisoft says, you can: “Enhance your experience with standard access and unleash your creativity. Play solo or multiplayer in seasonal campaigns and track your progress with the collection of medals, trophies, and regional and world rankings.”
The combination of being only available on PC and the subscription model has fully put trackmania 2020 in the “maybe” column since its release. At this point, being able to boot it quickly on a console might sway me to give it another go.
