Popular Twitch streamer xQc lost over $800,000 during a recent betting stream due to a site glitch caused by the streamer.
Betting streams have become an increasingly popular category for many content creators on streaming platforms like Twitch. However, the massive rise in streams dedicated to watching top talent wager hundreds of thousands of dollars has been met with a lot of backlash from viewers and even other creators. Major streamers like Asmongold and Mizkif have spoken out against the rise of gambling-focused content with Mizkif even turning down a major gambling sponsorship. However, gambling streams continue to attract tens of thousands of viewers, with xQc being one of the most prominent.
Twitch streamer xQc has a rocky history with gambling, both in games and grand theft auto 5 and gambling websites like Stake. xQc has admitted in the past that the streamer has a gambling addiction. However, he would go on to justify his actions by saying that he “can afford it” as one of the highest earning streamers on Twitch. Despite admitting his clear gambling addiction, xQc has continued to regularly stream his bets online with a recent stream in which the streamer suffers a huge loss outside of the game.
During one of xQc’s most recent broadcasts, the streamer made a huge mistake while playing The Wild Machine on the Stake betting website. While on a streak where the streamer was set to earn winnings totaling over $800,000, xQc hit the refresh button on his browser, causing an error when trying to reload the page. After a tirade filled with rage over self-inflicted losses, xQc sinks back in his chair staring at the error screen, then comments that he probably would have continued playing with the money. While the xQc bug resulted in a significant monetary loss for the streamer, it is unlikely to have an effect on their own status or their future with betting streams. Twitch streamer xQc’s gameplay streams have been the subject of scathing comments from other creators like Amouranth. The streamer even previously claimed that he would stop doing gambling broadcasts only to start once again. xQc has also seen unprecedented success in recent months with a flow of surveillance 2The April beta broke its viewership record with over 300,000 watching its stream.
The recent loss of Twitch streamer xQc comes as gameplay mechanics in games have become a hot topic in recent years. Along with the rise in popularity of gambling-focused streams on Twitch, many within the broader gaming community have begun to speak out against the inclusion of gambling mechanics. Loot boxes have been a particular focus for many upset with the games connection to gambling with some countries even looking to ban loot boxes altogether. Despite the growing animosity towards gambling, xQc continues to have success during their gambling streams, which will likely continue well into the future.
