In the process of filming, a lot of things get cut and left for dead on the cutting room floor, and Baron Mordo found himself a literal target of such a thing in Medical Stranger in the multiverse of madness.
Originally playing a larger role in doctor strange 2 it was Chiwatel Eijofor’s Mordo, who was originally going to be decapitated by the Scarlet Witch in an opening scene of the film. Marvel must have faced a headache from having such a brutal beheading that clearly marked the start of Elizabeth Olsen as the movie’s villain.
But, pieces of this idea still remain, with concept artist Jeremy Simser showing off a lost scene of Wanda Maximoff’s Kamar-Taj lockdown summoning Mordo’s decapitated head in a threat to Doctor Strange. It’s quite likely that having a “sympathetic” villain kill so ruthlessly so soon lessens the impact of how much more unhinged she becomes as she becomes more desperate.
Olsen’s characterization of Scarlet Witch from Wanda Vision has leaned very slightly towards the more sinister side of her, but multiverse of madness it amplified that significantly. While he does get redemption at the end of the movie, it’s fair to say that killing all of Earth-838’s Illuminati, aside from that universe’s Mordo, probably means he has bad karma.
Scarlet Witch will no doubt return at some point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Olsen expressing interest in a solo spin-off movie at some point. Until then, fans can watch doctor strange 2 on Disney Plus
