People around the world continue to react to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II who, after 70 years on the throne, was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. And while most reactions included grief and mourning, others took to making jokes and spreading bizarre conspiracy theories, one of which involves the Queen’s beloved corgis.
Among the weirder theories — and trust us, there are plenty — comes Huffpost and Slate journalist Ashley Feinberg, who joked that a royal guard at Buckingham Palace would be ordered to blindfold and execute the remaining corgis. of the Queen. You can see the tweet for yourself below:
The joke, which many took to heart, is based on the assumption that the queen would rather have her dogs killed and buried with her than survive without her.
In reality, the truth behind the joke stems from the Queen’s stance that she would stop breeding or replacing her corgis so as not to shoulder the responsibility of a dog in her care. The Queen has been a well-known animal lover for most of her life, and she simply feared that her eventual passing would affect the care and management of her beloved dogs.
However, it is believed that Prince Andrew will now look after his dogs, considering he initially gifted the Queen with two corgis when her husband, Prince Philip, was in hospital years ago.
It remains to be seen whether her most beloved dogs will still be buried in the Queen’s infamous “Corgi Cemetery” after her eventual death, which the Queen created on her Sandringham estate in 1987. For now, the Queen’s faithful corgis, they will certainly remain safe. her, loved and forever grateful for her loyalty over the years.
