Tim Burton’s Netflix Wednesday series reimagines the creepy, wacky Addams Family for modern times and takes the eldest daughter into a whole new setting: private school. Jenna Ortega stars as the titular character alongside Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as mother and father Morticia y Gómez.
Story details have been kept under wraps, including whether other notable Addams characters will appear. Well, during Netflix’s Tudum 2022 virtual event, fans got their first look at the Thing, the Addams’ house assistant and sidekick with an exclusive scene from Wednesday discovering that the Thing had somehow snuck aboard their belongings and was shipped off. to keep an eye (or thumb) on her while she was at Nevermore Academy. Check out the scene below.
With the first teaser for the series released in June, Addams Family fans have been clamoring for more information on Wednesday. Ortega herself spoke about her character and what it means to her and how she wanted to portray Wednesday authentically as a young Latina.
“For me, every time I have the opportunity to represent my community, I want it to be seen,” Ortega said in a Netflix report. Ortega added that Wednesday had been “immaculately done in the past” and tried not to overshadow what has been done before, but to add to it.
Wednesday premieres globally on November 23, only on Netflix.
