It hasn’t been a good time for Bayonetta fans. While Bayonetta 3 on the Nintendo Switch is a sure thing, fans of the character action series have only gotten information from Nintendo, Platinum Games, and series creator Hideki Kamiya. It’s been mostly silent since its 2017 reveal, but now we know the Bayonetta 3 release date.
Bayonetta 3 will release on October 28, meeting its promised 2022 release window. The announcement of Bayonetta 3 came alongside the reveal that the first two Bayonetta games would be coming to Switch – those ports were released in February 2018. Since then, the only appearance of the eponymous witch was in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which came out on Switch. in December 2018. Since Bayonetta 3’s reveal, the game has not been featured at subsequent industry events. It wasn’t until the September 2021 Nintendo Direct that Nintendo finally confirmed the 2022 release window.
Kamiya and Platinum Games insist that the title’s progress is “going very well” in their eyes. More recently, Kamiya told VGC in January 2021, “We have to get something out, right? I guess it’s safe to wait for something to come out. There’s still a lot of the year left, is what I’m saying.” It’s not the surest confirmation of new information coming soon, but it’s something to hold on to.
Platinum Games’ most recent titles are Switch-exclusive Astral Chain, a remaster of Kamiya’s The Wonderful 101, and Apple Arcade title World of Demons. Otherwise, Platinum has been pretty busy, announcing in early 2020 its “Platinum 4” project of four (or more) new games. It’s hard to determine where Bayonetta 3 fits in with this roadmap. This guide will be updated once more information about Bayonetta 3 emerges.
