the Ground zero without zen beta, or rather its first fit test, is underway, giving us some hands-on impressions and gameplay for Genshin Impact developer Hoyoverse’s next title. Unsurprisingly, players have immediately latched on to its fast-paced roguelike combat and progression, and jolting physics. Also that.
This fit test is essentially a closed beta that only saw a limited number of invites, but participants, including many Genshin Impact content creators, can at least stream and share their gameplay. This has already produced a plethora of clips, showcases, and highlight reels, and testing has only just begun at the time of writing.
It’s immediately clear that Zenless Zone Zero is a much faster action game than Genshin Impact, and maybe even Hoyoverse’s Honkai Impact 3rd. Apparently, you can put together a squad of three characters and swap between them on the fly, either using specific moves or chaining up fighting game-style assists to charge up your ultimates. You can also perfectly dodge attacks to briefly slow down time, and abilities seem to have short cooldowns in general, giving fights a breakneck pace overall.
YouTuber Veyn Genshin shared a nice gameplay of three characters: Von Lycaon, Miyabi, and Nicole, showing the general flow of the game. the game club (opens in a new tab) has a good collection of each character’s abilities and talents, and Arekkz Games (opens in a new tab) prepared a supercut of each character’s ultimate abilities. If you want to see more than one specific character, check out this great solo game showcase from UngUng Game (opens in a new tab).
…and if you’re looking to compare Zenless Zone Zero’s jolt physics to Genshin Impact, you’re in good company; such publications have quickly risen to the top of the official subreddit of the game (opens in a new tab) and spread to their discord. Hoyoverse has, uh, notably dialed things up compared to Genshin, which is actually pretty tame compared to a lot of gacha games, and to no one’s surprise, ZZZ’s Nicole has become the case study for this and quickly became semiviral in multiples. regions.
